Hello,

I'm new to Kodi and planning to move from classic DLNA based access on my old TV to Kodi. I have a problem with episode thumb filenames. When building my library I had to try several times to successfully add my TV series to the library and for TV series that use local scraper at some point the thumbs were displayed correctly but at another attempt they were blank. I can't figure out what affect's the result. I noticed that Kodi uses -thumb suffix for thumb filenames that are downloaded through online scrapers. When I change the filename to e01-thumb.jpg instead of just e01.jpg it works and the thumbs appear in the library. The problem is that I still need to use my legacy TV DLNA access (at least for some time) and the thumb files need to have the same name as the episode files otherwise my TV doesn't show them. I also don't want to duplicate each thumb file. Is there a way to set Kodi to use files without -thumb suffix?

Unfortunately there is not.
The naming is hard-coded in core, and is also case sensitive and must be lowercase

Maybe switch to Kodi as the DLNA server and your tv can be the client?

I haven't found the exact thubnail naming rules on the link you posted - can you point to the specific location/chapter? If it would be hard-coded it woudn't have worked at all. But I'm 100% sure that Kodi displayed the thumbs before I added the -thumb suffix and only when it stopped working I added the -thumb suffix to fix it. When it happend the first time, I reinstalled Kodi from scratch and it was working again for a while.

Maybe they weren't working at all, instead Kodi downloaded an online version to fill in the missing artwork.

The online thumbs for this series are not available. But I remember a switch that allows generating thumbs from the videos so this could've been the case.
