So I've Google Chromecast with Google TV HD i bought last month and using it on a old Panasonic HD plasma TV. Not many apps installed in this. Only Netflix, Stan, Youtube(+kids) and Kodi. Kodi will periodically lose all settings I've setup and go back to default first run settings. There's no specific pattern to when it'll happen. Sometimes I'd have used kodi 3-4 times and then this will reset or sometimes it'll reset very next time after I've watched something in Kodi. But this definitely happens. I’ve Nvidia shield 2019 pro and Firestick lite(Sideloaded Kodi) and had no problem like this with them. I’ve forced stop Kodi, cleared cache and data, uninstalled and reinstalled(in that sequence) and it still keeps on happening. Anyone have any resolution to this issue

Since getting the Google Streamer I get the same issue, Kodi looses all interface settings like GUI sounds and video calibration but keeps file settings. I do not see any pattern but it happens ever other week.

Happens on the Firestick Max Gen 2 also. Very random. Goes to default skin and have to reset all GUI settings.

This kind of thing usually occurs if Kodi doesn't shut down cleanly (or is force-closed) and files which are open get corrupted.
When Kodi is closed down normally, that's when things like the skin settings get updated and saved back to their relevant files.
So if this doesn't happen cleanly then the file can become corrupt, at which point on next boot it obviously can't read them back and so falls back to the safe default.
The corrupt files are then overwritten with fresh new ones, and of course then the old settings are lost.
You can tell if it happens this way by looking at the skin setting on such an occurrence - it won't say Estuary but will say none or something like that (I forget offhand), even though it's Estuary that is actually loaded.
It's more common on Android as there are circumstances (crashing or even just when background running) where the OS can force-close the app, at which point you're in the danger zone.
I'd suggest to have a check next time it happens and see if what I describe above fits the evidence.

Yes, it seems had connected my Google Streamer to my slave/master power strip which is controlled by my amp so when shutting down the Google Streamer dies abruptly. Thanks for the explanation. Still thinks it bad form from Kodi tho.

Get everything set the way you like it and then backup the guisettings.xml file. If it happens again you can just restore that file and be up and running immediately.
