Release viwX (live and VOD from ITVX)
#91
@kereltje Please have a look at https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=378666 - when the server returns 'no continue watching items' instead of valid JSON response, the addon crashes Kodi. I think such "special" responses must be filtered prior to decoding.

Kodi Media Center 21.1, running on OSMC on RPI4.

I'm new to this add-on and working to get to work on it OSMC.  I've read all of the related info above, am working through installing 1.50, and want to say a big THANK YOU to @Karellen (not sure if I did that correctly) for the investment in this add-on and support in this thread.

Does the add-in support saving or persisting the credentials from one opening of the add-in to the next?

If so, I haven't found that info, and a link would be as excellent an answer as spelling it out here.

Thanks!

ViwX does not store username and password, but stores the keys used to authenticate.

Version 1.5.1

Fixes:
  • News clips failed to play with KeyError 'Base'.
  • Error messages when opening an empty 'Continue Watching' list.
  • Some Stream-only FAST channels stalled in advert breaks.
On most live channels it's now possible to seek back up to 1 hour from the moment the channel is started.
  • Programmes are now reported as having been fully played when the user has skipped to the end while playing.
  • Some programmes were missing in IPTV EPG.
  • Search now requests the same number of items as a generic web browser does.
Paid items are excluded from search results based on the setting 'Hide premium content'

I expect 1.5.1 will soon be in the official Kodi repo, but it's also available as zip file from
https://github.com/dimkroon/itvx-for-kodi/releases
and kodi file source https://dimkroon.net/kodi-addons/

Check the first post in this thread for installation instructions.

I was getting the error Key Error 'Base' with 1.5.0 when trying to view on-demand programs in the News category. It was working up to a few days ago. I've just updated to 1.5.1 and am getting the same error. Other on-demand works fine - its just the news that isn't working.

That's one of the things that should have been fixed in 1.5.1 - it's specific to short news clips. I just checked and it works over here.

If you updated while viwx was the last addon you used it may still use the old code until the addon is 'reloaded'. Just open another addon and then open viwx again. It's important to actually open another addon - just going back to the main menu and click on viwx again will not reload the addon.
If that doesn't work please send a debug log.

Thank you very much for the reply - it was exactly as you'd said. When I did the update I went directly back to the main menu. Doing as you described got everything working again.

Hey there 👋 scratching my head on an issue with viwx.
Live tv all working but any show plays with audio only.
Tried the usual work arounds, checking the forums scouring the web in case I missed something Ive seen someone else has had this issue on here.
The annoying part is it doesn't notify or come up as an error in logs.

On MacOS Sequoia/kodi v21omega/viwx 1.5.1

There's no debug info in the log. Please enable debug logging in Settings -> System. And also enable libcURL in component-specific logging.

I guess with 'show' you mean a VOD (catchup) show. However, all I can tell from the current log is that playing stops completely after a few seconds, or may not have started at all.
If it does play audio only, please leave it playing for like 30 sec.

Followed steps above and disabled any other video/TV element.

In your log no show was being played and the period of logging was too short for the 30 sec of play time I asked.
And better ensure to have setting  'log level' set to 'debug' in viwX's settings, just in case.

If you still need help:
  • remove these banned addons as asked above.
  • set log level to debug in viwX settings
  • enable debuglogging and libcURL component-specific logging in kodi's settings
  • restart Kodi and wait a little while to let iptv-merge do its thing in the background
  • play one of the catchup shows that only played audio.
  • stop the show after 30 seconds and upload the log.
