Apologies as I am unsure if this started with v21 or with my new 4k tv.  Both happened at same time Sad
I have searched and tried the different audio and codec changes recommended here (pass-thru, framerate whitelists, force ac3, etc) with no luck.
My system can play sub 1080p files fine it seems.  But any heavy file throws the cpu >300% on spikes.
The tv I am using is a Hisense, HDMI input with only resoluton option appearing to be 1080p60hz.
Kodi box feeds via HDMI to the tv.
I am using SPDIF audio out from tv to my dolby receiver.

My kodi box is 4yrs old, so if it is a case of box can not support this connection to the new tv, I will buy a newer box...

Thanks in advance for the help from the group!

it's stuttering because it's software decoding instead of hardware decoding
everything on the kodi side is fine
either your hardware doesn't support the video format you encoded to
or it doesn't report that it is capable to kodi

recommend not encoding your rips to codecs that your device doesn't support, hevc main 10 in this case

thank you for the reply.

But these videos played fine on the older tv with the SAME kodi box.  so same file, same box, same hardware.

The two things that changed are the kodi version updated and the tv.

Is it possible that mine is one of the hardware devices that doesnt report capability correctly and i need to bypass the codec check or force the hardware conversion (sorry, not sure how but i remember reading it in one of the many threads people started about stuttering when they went to a newer tv).

?

the test builds from the link provided are APK not ZIP so i'm not sure what you're asking
installing an apk requires a file manager or adb

the manual method here may be of value https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Android

sorry about that, wrong file Sad

Update- FIXED
I downgraded to Kodi 19.4 Matrix, the entire library plays smoothly without issue on both of my boxes.  I will remain at this version for now.
