v21 TV Channel Group thumbnails
#1
Can anybody tell me if there is a known issue with the generation of the live tv channel groups on the home page of Estuary, using 21.1?

I had been using a portable version of Omega 21 with no issues, but I updated my main Kodi installation today from Nexus to Omega 21.1 and I'm now seeing TV Channel Group thumbnails that are only three quarters generated. I've tried re-generating the thumbnails a number of times, but still getting the same result once that is done. Have also cleared all the PVR data multiple times, but that didn't resolve the issue either. I don't remember seeing anybody reporting an issue like this, which makes it even stranger.  Confused

I'm currently running 3 different clients. Screenshot below of what I'm seeing on the default Estuary skin.

Any thoughts on how I might be able to remedy this issue?
Thx

Good. I'm glad for you.
But this response is zero help to me!  Wink

Hmm. I thought confirming that it works at least for some of us is of help. You learn something new every day.

Actually, lets be clear, the response was both smug and dismissive.
That's something else you've learnt today.

Maybe you felt like it was. But it was in no way meant like this. Where I live we tend to be more straight to the point compared to where you live it seems. There is nothing to be read between the lines. Germans just say what they have to say. "It works for me", that's all I said, nothing more, nothing to be read in between.

Yes, you are right. It's all about perception.
If I had asked in my original post if anybody else was getting the same issue as I was seeing, then absolutely I would have considered the response perfectly normal and reasonable, ie. Good. Confirmation that this looking more likely the problem is unique to my set-up only then.

But that's not what I said or asked. I outlined the problem I was seeing and also provided a screen shot as further supporting evidence. I then went on to say what I had done to try and resolve the issue myself and finished up by clearly asking if anybody had any further thoughts on what else I could try doing to resolve the issue. So for me, this indicated the kind of responses I was actually looking for.

I do hope you can now maybe see where I'm coming from as well and how I might have perceived your response to be a little dismissive, even if that was not the intention. Anyway, It's done now. I certainly don't want to dwell on the matter any further.

As for the actual issue I raised, I think it's looking increasingly more like I'm going to have to go for the 'Nuke' option and do a complete clean install of Kodi, since I've now tried a whole range of different things over the course of this evening, but still no luck.

What I can tell from reading the code changes is that there were larger changes from Nexus to Omega.
Have you modified "imageres" in advancedsettings.xml? If yes could you reset that value to default (720) and report whether this makes a difference?
Best would be to report this issue here https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues and ping user rmrector. Unfortunately I cannot help here because I'm not familiar with that code.

No, I've not touched anything in my advancedsettings for maybe 3/4 years.
In fact, my Kodi installation originates from at least Leia, maybe even Krypton. I've just updated on every version cycle without any real issues in the past. I guess it's possible that something just broke on my set-up this time when updating to Omega, which hasn't manifested itself previously. But the main thing is that whilst its a small annoyance, it certainly doesn't affect my day-to-day usage in any way.....

In case this is still an issue; have you tried deleting the thumbnails folder and maybe textures.db and then restarting kodi..?

Hmm, not exactly.
I did remove any db records I found on the textures13.db file that mentioned PVR widgets, but that didn't make any difference.
What are the ramifications of deleting the thumbnails folder and textures13.bd file completely? Would these be rebuilt when I restart Kodi?

I have had some issues with icons etc. not showing correctly from cache. Cache will be rebuilt on restart.

So, I deleted both items, but unfortunately that didn't yield any change....Shame.
Looking more like I will have to do a complete clean install again at some point to solve the issue.

Like you, I have some artwork issues elsewhere within my video libraries. I made a monumental error ages ago when refreshing the main menu icons on my Emby server's home page and accidentally deleted all the local artwork from my libraries.....Grrr!
Fortunately, I was able to recover a good amount by doing a Kodi export, but I know I still have plenty missing. The thought of going through my libraries and and fixing these missing items is a job I've been dreading for ages.....Then again, maybe this latest quirk with the channel group icons will be enough of an annoyance for me to fix both problems now!  Wink
Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Well, it was worth a try.
I just finished deploying all clients from scratch and must say, feels pretty tidy ..Wink
