Hmm. I thought confirming that it works at least for some of us is of help. You learn something new every day.

Actually, lets be clear, the response was both smug and dismissive.
That's something else you've learnt today.

Maybe you felt like it was. But it was in no way meant like this. Where I live we tend to be more straight to the point compared to where you live it seems. There is nothing to be read between the lines. Germans just say what they have to say. "It works for me", that's all I said, nothing more, nothing to be read in between.

Yes, you are right. It's all about perception.
If I had asked in my original post if anybody else was getting the same issue as I was seeing, then absolutely I would have considered the response perfectly normal and reasonable, ie. Good. Confirmation that this looking more likely the problem is unique to my set-up only then.
But that's not what I said or asked. I outlined the problem I was seeing and also provided a screen shot as further supporting evidence. I then went on to say what I had done to try and resolve the issue myself and finished up by clearly asking if anybody had any further thoughts on what else I could try doing to resolve the issue. So for me, this indicated the kind of responses I was actually looking for.
I do hope you can now maybe see where I'm coming from as well and how I might have perceived your response to be a little dismissive, even if that was not the intention. Anyway, It's done now. I certainly don't want to dwell on the matter any further.
As for the actual issue I raised, I think it's looking increasingly more like I'm going to have to go for the 'Nuke' option and do a complete clean install of Kodi, since I've now tried a whole range of different things over the course of this evening, but still no luck.

No, I've not touched anything in my advancedsettings for maybe 3/4 years.
In fact, my Kodi installation originates from at least Leia, maybe even Krypton. I've just updated on every version cycle without any real issues in the past. I guess it's possible that something just broke on my set-up this time when updating to Omega, which hasn't manifested itself previously. But the main thing is that whilst its a small annoyance, it certainly doesn't affect my day-to-day usage in any way.....

In case this is still an issue; have you tried deleting the thumbnails folder and maybe textures.db and then restarting kodi..?

I have had some issues with icons etc. not showing correctly from cache. Cache will be rebuilt on restart.
