Small and cheap audio player for JBL Go3j
#1
Hello guys.

A friend of mine recommend Kodi to me years ago but back then I had no need for a media server. Now my situation has changed. I have never setup a server myself but I'd like to start and because a friend asked me to find a way to play music from a laptop (no bluethooth support) to a JBL Go3j speaker I thought it'd be nice to to start tinkering.

What I want is a media player that is accessible via local network and a web browser and/or smartphone app. Basically a power efficient server that will occasionally (10 hrs/week) be used to listen to music through already bought JBL Go3j speakers or looking at pictures and files via an web interface.

My first idea was to buy a SBC, a bluethooth module for it and a flashdrive for the OS. Then installing probably a tiny linux and install Kodi on it or going with LibreELEC. Then configuring the OS (to automatically scan for the JBL, if available establish connection) and Kodi, connecting the hdd, a powersupply and that's it, leaving it sit there until the end of the world or something.

Second idea was to reuse an older android phone, flashing it with an Linux OS, continuing like previously explained.

Ideas, feedback and critique are very welcome.

Best regards
