This way people less versed with tech can just put whatever videos they want on loop in a directory on the SD, attach it to a screen and boot it.

kodi is overkill for this use

On the folder open the Context menu and select Queue item then on side menu select Go to playlist. Once in Video Playlist view you'll see the queue of videos, go to side menu here and you'll see a Repeat option, select All. To start playback select the first video and Kodi will then begin to advance through the playlist items, and then loop back to the first and then advance through again.
