v19 Keymap Editor (Kodi 18/19 and on)
Hello, I recently bought a new Samsung Frame TV, which I use with an Apple TV box connected to use kodi. Everything works fine with the Samsung remote, except for the context menu. When I long press on the round button, it just selects, rather than opening the context menu.

On advice I've seen through a google search, I downloaded the keymap editor kodi add-on and have tried to change the context menu button, but when I try, it doesn't recognise the button I press, so nothing changes. As a test, I attempted it with my Apple TV remote, to map one of the other buttons, but it also didn't do anything.

I don't know if the keymap editor add-on is broken, or if I'm doing something wrong. I'd really love to be able to use the Samsung remote for everything, but I can't figure out how to get it to work. I would really love any help I can get with this.

Thanks so much in advance for any help or advice!

@Xammy - your post/thread (above) has been merged into the main support thread for the addon (the current one you're reading this in).
This post is just a courtesy in case you wondered where your original one went.

In this case, which specific button(s) are involved? Are they buttons that Kodi actually receives, or are they intercepted first by the hardware or OS levels and so never reach Kodi?

If you were using the Samsung remote to control the AppleTV (and thus the Kodi app running on the AppleTV), it's using something called HDMI-CEC so that the Samsung TV can control the AppleTV.  In cases like that, the TV decides what remote presses to pass to the other device and which ones to "keep" for itself.  My bet is that the Samsung is not passing along with context menu button via HDMI-CEC.

There can be similar challenges with the AppleTV remote.  Some of the buttons and gestures are reserved for TVOS to use, so they aren't always passed to the app.  the best thing to do would be to enable debug logging, try to map something again, and then post the log.  Then we can at least see what, if any, remote press is being passed to Kodi.

I'm not sure what is happening, to be honest. I went into the keymap editor to navigation -> context menu. It states that the 'c' key is used for the context menu, so then I clicked to edit. I get a message to click the button I want to map to it, and that it will time out in 5 seconds. I click the button I want (I've tried long press on the center select button, the volume button, colored button for the guide, etc) but it just doesn't recognise anything. It still says 'Content Menu - c'. I've tested to see if the buttons work but it just doesn't say it in the keymap editor list but they don't work.

I also tried to use the Apple TV remote to see if it'd let me map the buttons on there (even though they already work, I wanted to test if the editor would recognise the remote to change anything) and nothing happened then either. It's like the keymap editor just isn't recognising the remote buttons when I press them.

The Apple TV remote works fine, actually. I'm just being a bit like a dog with a bone trying to get the Samsung remote to also work so I don't have to fuss with two remotes. I will do as you suggested and get the log info, thanks!
