MythBusters TV Show scraping with TheTVDB (TheTVDB.com) scraper - what's the trick?
#1
Question
Just upgraded to Babylon 9.04-beta1 r19639 and decided to start importing TV series into it.

Started off with mythbusters, using TheTVDB as the source for the folder to get info, but it messed up the episode order - wrong descriptions for episodes, so deleted the folder and re-added using tv.com (as it matched my episode numbering) and it shows no episodes whatsoever.

Imported a few other series, and they all work fine.

Having looked at TV.com and The TVDB.com they have totally different episode numbering, and have also noticed a Mythbusters python script (which appeared to be xbox only but may be mistaken). I did have a go at installing the script and running it, but it didnt seem to work, it gave a script error.

So..... is Mythbusters just a problem series, have I done something wrong or do I need to renumber them all to match TheTVDB.com?

If I edit the folder source back to TheTVDB.com I get the episodes back in the library, but again, they are all mis-matched with the wrong descriptions. It's like they cant be recognised by TV.com, but they have the correct numbering scheme.

Might be worth asking in thetvdb forum. They do have 3 different ways to order episodes. Aired order, DVD order, and some other kind of order that I'm blanking on. You might check those out.

But even if they did, how would that be controlled from withing the XBMC scraper?

When you set content, after you choose thetvdb, select settings (which is right next to the OK). From there you can select either DVD Order or Absolute Order.

I'm relatively certain this is all in the wiki. You should consider more thoroughly reading that.

Just scanned some eps of mythbusters on rc1, worked fine. What does your directory layout and file naming look like?

Thanks for the help, but have just tried that, and still gives the same results. Sad

The crux of the problem is all the episodes I have relate to TV.com

for example series 6 episode 11 on my HDD is 'Viral Hour' as it was posted

on TV.com - 6x11 is viral hour
on TheTVDB - 6x11 is James Bond Special Part 1

so I am presuming the only current option is to rename all my files (7 series) to match TheTVDB, unless someone can tell me how to scrape then from TV.com

The MythBusters ordering on TVDB is retarded, and they refuse to fix it. It has nothing to do with DVD order or Aired order. Check their forums.

To use a different scraper for one series, simply highlight that show's folder in file mode, then set content on it and change the scraper. It will be obvious how to do it once you get started.

I'm suspecting you did not follow my advice and go to the tvdb forum. If you had, on the very front page of the series discussion you would have found this thread.

Conclusion: you should probably rename the files. It's always better to have thetvdb support.

If their solution to the subject is to rename all of your files different than every other tv-guide type site and different than every release group I've seen... well then I stand by my previous post.

I think thetvdb is awesome and scrape every other show with them. But the results for mythbusters are plain wrong so I use a different site.

That's fair. I don't download or really watch Mythbusters, so I don't have a position in this discussion. If using TV.com is more effective, then so be it.

Erm, I didn't have to touch anything. I used default scraper settings for thetvdb and the files were names Mythbusters.sXXeYY.other.crape.avi. Scraped all of s01 and the four eps of s07 that have aired (ie all that I have) just fine.

It really really helps to automate proper renaming of TV files.

Hmm, sorry. It just came to my attention that the info is wrong for some of what was scraped. It's discovery channels fault. Someone needs to petition them to stop dicking with the season ordering.

You misunderstood the problem in the thread. It isn't a naming issue, thetvdb hasn't changed their episode ordering for mythbusters to reflect the 'new' one that Discovery put out, so season 8 on thetvdb is season 7 according to discovery, etc.
As althekiller said it is really Discovery's fault for changing it (more than once apparently).

The admin of that site just posted yesterday though that they'll change it if Discovery sticks to it for 2 seasons straight, or if someone cares enough to make a large contribution to the site. Sounds fair to me. Nod

I understood the problem. What I should have said is that TheRenamer scrapes from TVDB or TV.com depending on the preference, and is capable of using the episode name as a reference...meaning that it should be able to auto-rename everything to the same data pulled by TVDB.

So...while the episode numbers may not appear in the right order, at least the shows will match what they really are.
