What's the max size mpg file that xbmc can play?
#1
i have some 3gb .mpg files on my xp network drive (over samba) which wont play past about 1.4 gb. isd this because there's a limit on size or have i missed a cache setting? thanks

i'm not sure what the max size is, but it definielty will not play my tivo extracted mpg2 files over 3-4 gb. i've tried all streaming methods. xbmp plays the same files fine.

this is the fatal flaw of xbmc right now for me. i like the version of mplayer in xbmc with the osd much better than the "old" version in xbmp, but until this size/streaming limitation is fixed, i must continue with xbmp.

exactly teh problem i have! these mpeg files are tytools-muxed from my tivo. i've compressed some to 600mb divx files but i lose quality. the other option of using raw .ty files is limited to xbmp and the codec is a little flakey (the ccxstream works fine, just the codec.) like you i prefer the xbmc mplayer osd (and the other functionality)

just a plea then to d7 and other tivo/xbox developers to keep going with the tivo stuff!

looks like a new fix was just put in to allow files > 2gb!

this will probably be in the next build.

"fixed: samba can't handle files > 2 gb correctly"

don't ask when the new build will be, cuz i don't know hehe.

take care,

note that samba can now handle files bigger then 2 gig.
this doesn't mean movies > 2 gig will play with xbmc (i couldn't test this, because i odn't have a video of over 2 gig on my server Smile).
simple said, it can work, but it is also possible it doesn't. just test.
