SMB and network problems
#1
hi all,

as i see here, not many people seem to have problems with smb. i successfully helped a friend to install his box and to enable smb in his network, but now i'm trying my own box (which was only used with a large harddisk before) and just can't get it work. i use xbmc version from 2004-01-02. (i hope this is the one with the new samba client). perhaps somebody can help me with the following:

1.) as soon as i start xbmc my xbox stops responding to pings. when i start other applications (like dvd-movie player) i see the same behaviour. is this the usual behaviour?

2.) i changed 'xboxmediacenter.xml' with my logon data for my w2k-workstation which has 192.168.16.10. my xbox has 192.168.16.205. :

server is the machine name. it is placed in the wokrgroup gulp68. none of the following is working

<path>smb://workgroup;xbox:[email protected]/musik</path>
<path>smb://workgroup;xbox:xbox@server/musik</path>
<path>smb://xbox:xbox@server/musik</path>
<path>smb://computername;administrator:password@server/musik</path>
<path>smb://computername;administrator:[email protected]/musik</path>

can anyone help?

thanks

have you tried without domain/workgroup?

<path>smb://administrator:[email protected]/musik</path>

look in you shared folder (musik) so that there you have read rights...

do you have a software firewall on your computer? if so, disable it and try...

and 2004-01-02 uses the new samba code with bugs, better upgrade to a higher version.

no software firewall, and my version is 'xbox media center cvs build' which is probably (i got it from emule) 2004-01-02

i checked the user rights as well... full control is granted to "everyone"

thanks again

can you ftp to your box when xbmc is started? (make sure you have enabled ftp in settings...)

no, but when i quit xbmc, ftp is available again. ftp is enabled in settings, general in xbmc. i was wondering if this is normal. http isn't working neither.

thanks

go to settings-->system info.

do you see your ip address and stuff there?

ts
42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot

yes. the ip is hown correctly. i tried both editing the ip settings in xmbc and leaving it blank to use the evox settings. in both cases i see 192.168.16.254. but no ping respond (when xmbc is started), no ftp, no http....

by the way:
i see no connection on my workstation (netstat /a) when i establish a connection (chosing the smb-share from xbmc). i get no entries in the security log of w2k although auditing logon events is enabled...

hmm. you said you dl from emule... it might be a bad build. try get a new one. and as darkie said, try find a newer one. 07-01 is the latest build...

just ot of curiousity... what solved the problem?
#13
it only could have been the new release. i installed the 2004-01-07 release and it was working without any additional configuration. i just used
smb://user:pass@server/share.

bye
