just installed the 01-07-03 build.
i find most of the menu navigation to "bounce".
i.e i press the key once and xbmc seems to treat it like two or more key presses.
navigating for example my music folder, if i press back from within an artist/album folder it takes me back to the main menu instead of the artist folder.

i tried the 2003-10-08 build and the some of the bounce issues are better but still i have the following problem.
when browsing a relax folder
/root/artist1/album1
i click the back button and expect to go into the artist1 folder instead of which it goes to the main menu. if i then reselect mp3 it now comes back into the artist1 folder

also tried the cvs "xbmc-2003-10-08".
remote bouncing is still there (at least in browsing smb shares).
sometimes i have to press select 5 times, before the sub folder stays on screen.
also agree:
back button should turn back one menu level (up), not back to the main menu!
cheers

the (b) button is for this
back is go back to main menu
ofcourse this is for controller....
i thought remote worked to, will have a look tonight..
cvs server lags a little behind the real current code so not everything that is fixed appears fixed in releases.

i also have problems with my remote control (non official from technology innovation). for example, the select button doesn't work or if i press the info button, it keeps pressed forever.

installed the oct 12 build of xbmc.
the menu navigation is still the same.
i.e if you are in a folder and if you press back you go to the main menu instead of one level up.
also using the remote pressing menu does not take you back to the main menu as it used to in xbmp.

this issue has been fixed for me as of the 10-18 build, the ir remote works as expected.

i don't think it's completely solved yet. when i try to access a samba-share (for the first time after power-on), i always bounce back. when i access the share for the second time, the delay is shorter and it's not bouncing.
i tried with 10-18 and remote.

i use an official xbox remote. when i browse to a directory, press "select" on the remote, it goes in to the folder and switches directly back to the previous folder. i have to press select very decently to go into the specified folder.
using the latest cvs-sourcecode

using the latest 10-18 cvs release. the menu bounce seemed ok for awhile and then i too started seeing the effect that is described by the previous post. clicking on select would take me into the directory and then out again immediately.
in addition using the remote "back" still takes me to the main menu.
also clicking on "menu" on the remote does nothing.
