Hi everyone.
I have finally decided to setup a media centre primarily for viewing DVD's (non HD) and was wondering if the xbox is now considered obsolete.
My plan would be to have an xbox with the DVD ISO's (ripped using DVDFab6) stored on a file server, which at the moment would be a shared folder on my main pc, but eventually a NAS with RAID.
What i dont want to do, is to buy an xbox (which are very cheap on ebay) only to find out that in a few months XBMC no longer supports them. My theory is that an xbox is designed to be attached to a tv so i would not have to bother about graphics card compatibility and other issues.
What do you all think?

Yes the Xbox is out of date hardware wise... it will do 720p for skins which look amazing and some reasonable results in video encoded at the right bitrate also...
Arnova is doing an awesome job keeping the ol'gal going - and has said he will continue to do his best...
DVD ISO wont throw any problems for it.... best bang for your buck by a mile!

Noteworthy is that it's considered unsupported by the team in general. Arnova is doing a great job but it's not considered supported. He is doing it as a teammember ofc. but since not all functionality never will be there and it's bound to never be up to date we can't say it's supported. The main development can't staggnate anymore because of it, to much constraints in the xbox for proper coding.
As said though, for dvd isos it will still be a great machine. And you'll still be able to run it perfectly, but maybe not the most latest skins (if not modded).

Maybe we should pool together to get a final xbox build. I'd like to have a final stable build but UPnP has been broken for about a year now. If we could get the features working, then release a final build, then we could give XBOX a good send-off.

Hmm, now i am unable to make a descision.
If i were to build media pc which would connect to a SCART socket what graphics card would i need?
The TV connection is the only reason i would prefer an xbox, but a pc would be more versatile.

Get the xbox. TBH. all the bells and whistles don't matter that much and if you don't like it then get something else to run it on. The xbox costs less than a pizza.

The scart is the limitation here, It will even limit the use of skins.

I got an xbox off a friend and had it set up as a XBMC in under 1 hour and am very happy so far.
