ASRock ION 330HT component output?
#1
Recently bought an ASRock ION 300HT to replace my original xbox/xbmc. I went for Live 9.11 and the install was nice and simple. Shame the supplied remote doesn't work Sad

In my current setup I use a 37" plasma for everyday viewing, this obviously works well with hdmi connection. However I have a projector for proper movie viewing Big Grin Trouble is this is still an analogue device so this is where my problem comes with driving it from the ASRock. I have a component (and hdmi for future) at the back of my av rack buried in the wall and ceiling to the projector. I thought I could use a vga to component cable to connect but this doesn't seem to work. this is the one I used;

Is this possible? Is this the wrong type of cable? What do I need? Obviously I could just upgrade the projector but this may have to wait Laugh

Think I have a solution to my little problem. Found a hdmi to component convertor for a reasonable price. So I have ordered this to try. If this works well I will then order a hdmi splitter so I can have one supplying the plasma and the other to new converter and hence the projector. Once I upgrade the projector the splitter will still be needed and I only take out the hdmi to component converter.

VGA (RGBHV) and component (YPbPr) are not interchangeable.

To my knowledge none of the ION boards have the hardware necessary for YPbPr output.

Anyway, you do need something to transcode your vga/hdmi/dvi to component. This is the cheapest I found with a quick search. If you found something for much less be sure it's converting the HDMI signal to Component and not the other way around.

You are correct and this board does not have the capability to output YPbPr.

I want to drive both my plasma and projector from this ASRock. Plasma is fine because it has HDMI input but the projector has Component. So I was looking for something to enable me to connect to the projector and therefore convert one of the current outputs. I thought the VGA conversion would the easier route but that was not the case. So I have found a HDMI converter;

If this works I will then buy a HDMI spliter so the one HDMI output can drive both the Plasma and the Projector via this converter Big Grin

I'm in a similar situation because my older CRT HDTV only takes component input. I picked up a HDFury2 from monoprice and it works great. A few tweaks and I was up and running with no overscan. My little N230 computer blows away the PS3 I was using before it.
