i ran : sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xbmc
And nothing changed, still get the same screen as shown above.
although I don't understand this part of the directions:
so i re-flashed my usb using dd to xbmc-live-9 (good thing i made a backup).
i booted up my acer revo using xbmc-live-9.
i ssh'd into it from another pc (xbmc/xbmc for login/pass).
But I was able to log in and run the command you stated, but nothing changed, still no dice.

^ i'm out of ideas... the only thing i can think of is that this command tried to update something nonessential to xbmc:
sudo apt-get upgrade (like trying to upgrade the display driver).
at this point i would try to create a live usb of xbmc-10 (which wouldnt boot up for me so i used my backup of xbmc-9 and used apt-get to upgrade to version 10).
good luck,

Bought an external DVD drive, can i just download the latest version and mount it on a DVD and just load it from there? I'll just set up everything again

^ yeah, the live-dvd should work the same as a live-usb (you would have to ensure that you burn the image as an iso in your dvd writing software).
maybe by cutting out the unetbootin step to create a bootable usb drive, you will be more successful in creating a bootable dvd.

^ it seems like upgrading debian is fubar-ing the graphics driver.
so my method in post #813 basically updates xbmc without upgrading debian.

Did so
E trouble shooting, and checked the boot menu and my Revo does recognize the USB drive there. But not while in xbmc. I tried uninstalling live and re installing it from the command line but no luck
