[AppleTV2] ATV2 With 4.1.1
#1
I purchased a ATV2 today and it has iOS 4.1.1 installed. I ran Limerain and it says it was successful. Now I tried using Putty to SSH into the ATV2 but getting Network Connection Refused. I don't see an option in Putty to put in the "Alpine" password so I assumed Putty would connect first and in the SSH Terminal it would ask for the password, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Any help would be great!

I don't see how I can confirm that.

I just tried Sn0wbreeze. It created the ipsw but when I go into iTunes to restore using the newly built IPSW I get an error now. Any help please?

ATV2 firmware version 4.1.1 is actually IOS 4.2.1. As far as I know, IOS 4.2.1 is jailbreakable by Seas0nPass. This worked for me. Note that you need to "tether boot" everytime you reboot ATV.

Well that sucks. I don't own a Apple Computer. Looks like I'm going to have to figure out how to install OSX86 on a PC. Any suggestions?

Haha total hijack. Im gonna let you finish first, but beyonce had the best video of all time! In all seriousness though, if you used a Mac to initially just install the IPSW, you can tether boot it from windows. Check out some of the windows threads in this sub catagory
Server - Debain Squeeze Server + 6TB RAID5 + Sabnzbd + CP & SB
HTPC - Zotac MAG + 60GB Vertex 2 SSD + OpenELEC Frodo 12.1 + Aeon Nox
HTPC 2 - AppleTV 2

I'm sorry, but I bought a ATV2 today just for XBMC. Is it my fault that I didn't read that you can't jailbreak a ATV2 in Windows? Yes. But XBMC should make a note about that. All they say is after you jailbreak this is how you install XBMC. Well the majority of XBMC users are not Mac users. So now I have this worthless ATV2 that I am debating taking back.

Ive been following the iPhone (or iDevices nowdays) for the pass 2-3 years
Generally most, if not all jailbreaks have been released on both mac and pc's

Since Apple released firmware 4.2.1 there hasnt been a "complete" jailbreak for it yet, complete as in untethered (which means u must use the jailbreak software each time the device is turned off or rebooted) so currently the redsn0w, seas0npass (which is new btw) has all been tethered and limited to mac due to issues when ported to windows.

Either use the method above or wait for a pc version which the dev-team is releasing soon with redsn0w

I personally dont think you be waiting long...

YOU CAN NOT PUTTY INTO THE APPLE TV UNTIL AFTER XBMC IS INSTALLED!!!!!!!

Going to ask them to put that in the wiki... but you cant use putty until after xbmc is installed (atleast i couldn't)...
I had to ssh in thru linux or mac (i used linux since i have a revo in my livingroom)...
so yes
i putty into a xbmc live (ubuntu) setup and then use that to ssh into the apple tv (as backwards as that sounds)...

What? Putty? You mean SSH?
You can only SSH after you have jailbroken the device. Which is before the installation of XBMC
