[RELEASE] ShareThe.TV (Addon) - Share & Sync Movie Collection Listings Online
alright, it seems to be working now. Thanks.

I have a question/suggestion. Would it be feasible to add a feature where you can compare your library to anothers? For example, I have a friend and want to see which movies he has in his collection that I do not (without showing the ones that we both have).

great job so far btw.

Thank you so much for this... it's pretty neat. Now it's like a contest to see who has more..... lol

Account deletion. This should not be too difficult I suppose. Destroy user, delete all his posessions, done Smile I need this if I ever want to stop sharing all my movie info.

Privacy settings. Make an option so I can choose to have my collection private. This will remove my user name from the 'owners' on every movie page but still list my movies on my profile. If someone visits my profile it should say that this collection is private. Then, I want a unique resource URL that I can share with my friends. That way my friends (who don't have to have accounts) can see what movies I have. This URL can't be linked anywhere so that searchbots don't pick up on it.

All in all a great start. I found a lot of movies that I didn't have yet and that I really want to see. So the site does set out what it's supposed to do Smile

That's a pretty cool idea.

heya - I know you're working on the bugs, but someone PM'd me about exactly what I was talking about in regards to displaying all of the TV shows below the our profile information, so I cobbled together an example from the AWX webgui.

This picture is huge, so just linking to it here: http://img839.imageshack.us/i/lebigwallexample.jpg/

Cheers!

I also think this is a great idea and a way to implement it would be this...
When you click on someone else's profile, a quick comparison to your profile is performed, and a dynamic link could be created that states something like:

This user has X Movies that you don't have.
You have X Movies in common with this user.

Then when you click on the underlined links, a list of the matched movies are displayed.

A much more difficult, but doable task, would be using this information to find new "friends" that share the same interests as you... sort of like Facebook suggested friends.

I agree that profile owners should have the option to control privacy settings... again, much like other social networking sites. I disagree however with your suggested method of simply hiding a link from bots. It's far too easy to simply guess the url.

Instead, if a profile is marked private, simply require a "view password or PIN" for non-authorized sharethetv users and the public to access the page. If you want to share your profile with someone off the street, simply give them the url and password. Then of course, the profile owner could add trusted or blocked users that would not see the view password prompt.

One more suggestion... I've noticed some of the trailers are being blocked by youtube due to copyright infringement. It would be nice if there was a button next to the youtube link to report it as being broken.

@compcentral: To report dead youtube videos, go to the movie on themoviedb.org and fix the link there. Then, you can click the "Refresh Info" button on this site to pull those changes.

I like the comparison ideas. It's been brought up before, and I think something like checking what movies the other user has that you don't wouldn't be too hard to add. I'll try and get to it soon.

I just put up user account deletion. I want you guys to feel in control of your data, so at any time if you want to remove your account you can now. I've secured it by requiring you to submit your password if you want to delete your account. You can find it on your settings page.

I signed up on sharethe.tv web site a few hours ago, I also installed the addon in XBMC at that time. ANd No matter what I try, I continue getting the message "Unable to contact server but try again soon"

Privacy options are a must. for sure.

really dig the website. Am having significant issues with updating my library ("could not connect...") but I chalk that up to my internet speed.

I definitely like the idea of reconciling your library against someone else. Would be a proponent of that should it come up.

Not that it's my place to ask, but if you were soliciting for inputs, would you consider arranging movie owners by alphabetical order? Or possibly some other means of saying "you have this movie"? My library is getting up there a bit and I have a hard time remembering if I already have the movie I'm looking at. If owners are arranged alphabetically, I know I'm towards the bottom ("w") .

Please keep up the good work.

Great plugin here! Only now discovered it. But for some reason, it only detects 2313 of my 2681 films. That's 368 movies not being detected. It's not really a huge deal, but the extra films would be enough to give me the second highest collection on the site. Yes, I want bragging rights. lmao! Any way to fix this?

@steppedup: For that pic you linked, are you saying you'd like that to be the tv shows page when someone goes to your profile? I like the look of the wide banners. I was thinking of going poster style but I'll try both to see what works best.

@hdmax: I haven't seen any problems with the server. That message will also show when XBMC is offline. Any chance your connection dropped or is a bit flaky?

@wbread99: Internet speed shouldn't be an issue since it's a small amount of info it sends, it just needs the connection to be there when the update is sent. Any chance the network connection wasn't active, and is it wireless or wired? And yes, I am currently working on redesigning the movies page. The current layout doesn't really work for popular movies with hundreds of owners. I'll be adding a very clear indicator that will show on each movie page a "Yes, I own this" or "Do not own this" icon so you'll know right away on a movie page if you have it or not already.

@Shinu: Thanks! For collections as big as yours (nice by the way!), I agree, it's hard to figure out which ones didn't make it onto the site. I want to improve this because I think most collectors care about having their collection exactly as they have it locally. Pretty soon down the road I'm planning to add a feature that lets you view which movies weren't added in your most recent update and the reason why. Some reasons: not on tmdb, no year or imdb id sent, foreign text that's unrecognize, etc. I think this will solve your problem.

Thanks everyone for the continuing support of the site: we passed 200,000 owned movies today and saw a big spike in new users as well. All the feedback has helped a ton. I'm really excited to launch the new Oscars page once the nominations are released, and I'm hoping a lot of film fans will comment on those movies and get some discussions going around them. After that comes the redesign of the movie page and some general design fixes. Then, after that, we'll see Smile

Awesome DuffMan! A large portion of my movies are foreign language films (mainly Asian stuff) and a lot of them take a long time to be added to tmdb. Some of them are never even added. So yeah, being able to view your collection as stored locally would be great. This addon has be contemplating adding my anime collection to the library. It should be enough to place me at number 1. lol. Anyway, keep up the great work man. Love it thus far. Smile

Theduffman;
Thanks for the reply!
My connection is fine, XBMC is on line, and for a couple days now it can not connect.
I have almost 3600 moves, (Was up over 3750 movies, but went through them and got rid of many that were not up to my standard, I am sure I missed some.) and was hoping to show my library off to the world of XBMC users.
