I followed instructions detailed here:

But I can still run Kodi.

The recommended scripts called for

sudo apt-get remove kodi*

but this command came back with a bunch of "couldn't find" messages.  I went through and deleted every file I could find and tried again, "remove" and "purge" commands worked.

If you used Kodi's PPA to install Kodi, then there is also the Linux tool ppa-purge (which needs to be installed first). It usually removes all PPA-related files that were installed.

I'll remember that for next time.  I deleted all the Kodi folders I could find and did uninstall/reinstall and it cleared things up.
