Just seems a bit stupid to buy new epensive gear just because you cant use GT1030 with Linux when you can load Kodi on startup in Windows and have it play hevc 4k HDR without any problems.

With that reasoning it would be stupid to run the PC itself, buying the windows license when a simple fireTV stick does it all and pays itself just by power costs in half a year.

I don't think this thread is about reasoning, but finding a Linux solution. Intel is good, AMD also.

If Dolby Vision or HDR10 plus is important none of the above, including windows.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.
