Subtitles character set
#1
Hi,
I have a question related to multilanguage subs.
My Kodi is installed with English as main language.
Apparently, when I watch a video the subs use the main language character set, not the one specified as language for subs,
this doesn't allow proper subs for languages that use other character sets, as latin or nordic languages.
Characters like Å, ä, è, ê are simply not shown.

Is there a way for solving it?
Did I miss some settings?

Thanks,
Claudio.

Go into to you SYSTEM \ SETTINGS

Click on the VIDEO section

Now look for SUBTITLES

In here you want to change the FONT that has been selected for subtitles to one that will show the correct character set for your language.

This appears unrelated to original thread, but The default language for Kodi is English (GB) and the default character set is CP1252.  You can set the gui language to example Romanian and then the gui charset is UTF-8 and default subtitle charset is ISO-8859-2.  For subtitles you should be able to use either utf-8 or ISO-8859-2.  (I would if possible stick to utf-8).

There is a standards (not Kodi) problem with Charset ISO-8859-2 when used with Romanian, in that 8859-2 has characters ŞşŢţ only.  If you want instead ȘșȚț you need to use utf-8 encoding.  They should be available in the default font style used in Estuary and Estouchy skins.
