Hello everybody,

I'm new here, it's my first post to the forum. I'm 72 years old, from Austria, german is my mother tongue (pls. keep that in mind and excuse my english)

Hardware:
RPi 3 connected with HDMI to Panasonic TV
HifiBerry Amp+ on top of RPi3, 18V 60W power supply, speakers connected to HifiBerry
external optical drive (LG GP57EB40) via activ USB Hub to RPi3

Software:
OSMC VERSION_ID="2016.08-1"
Kodi 16.1
Skin Confluence

Problem:
If I insert an audio cd into the drive a new menu item shows on the homescreen (Disk Abspielen = play disc) and Kodi fetches the tracktitles. The player shows the title without german characters (öäüÖÄÜß).
To be able to select/pick a title to play I've defined a file cdda://local in music. In Music - Files I can now choose any title I want, but here the german characters are missing as well.

Question:
How and where can I change Kodi to get the correct titles?

By German letters I guess you mean the Umlauts ä, ü, ö. I wish I could test this but I've banned all my cds to the basement. Also I have no idea where kodi fetches title information from. CDDB or cd text? Do you know how to submit a debug log?

character set was unchanged to "Standard", tried "Western Europe (ISO)" without success.

Zeichensatz war auf "Standard", habe die Einstellung "Western Europe (ISO)" probiert, keine Änderung

What I can see from the log is that kodi sends a query to an online database of cds (the CDDB) and seems to get no result for the cd you put in (lines 1010 to 1012 in the debug log). Does kodi show you the name of the track nonetheless? I'm no dev but I can only assume it could read the track name from cd text (if the cd has this, not all do). My car radio does the same as it does of course not even have access to an online database like CDDB. Also I have no idea if cd text even allows Umlauts ä, ö, and ü. Is there another player that reads cd text you could test the cd with to see what it displays? If it displays the same I would assume that it's just the embedded track name that is faulty and nothing can be done so easily against it.

In German: Ich bin kein Entwickler. Es wird scheinbar durch Kodi eine Online-Datenbank (die CDDB = CD Database) abgefragt, aber die CD, die du eingelegt hast, wird dort nicht gefunden. Da ja offenbar aber ein Songname angezeigt wird, kann das nur heißen, dass dieser Name auf der CD als CD Text vorhanden ist. Mein Autoradio benutzt das auch, es hat keinen Online-Zugang. Ich weiß nicht, ob CD Text überhaupt Umlaute zulässt. Hast du die Möglichkeit, die CD einmal in einem anderen Player abzuspielen, der CD Text lesen kann? Ich tippe, dass die meisten aktuellen Autoradios oder CD Player das können. Leider habe ich CDs bei mir komplett verbannt und kann das nur mit erheblichem Aufwand testen. Wenn da das gleiche angezeigt wird, ist es zumindest kein Kodi-Problem.

You could be right with your assumption that the track titles are taken from CD text. It's a Sony album and Sony was/is one of the leaders for CD text. According to an information I founf on the net Umlauts are not allowed in CD text. I tried to check with my CD player in the car radion, but it does not show track titles only track numbers. Windows Media Player on Win 7 shows the correct titles, Rhythmbox on Ubuntu 16.04 does not show titles because can't find the information on MusicBrainz. ExactAusioCopy on Win 7 does not find album information on freedb.
Last but not least I tested an other album with Kodi and Umlauts where shown in the track titles. I think I'll have to live with this.

I would like to close this topic as solved, but can't find the button.

German: Du könntest recht haben mit deiner Annahme, die Liedtitel werden von CD text genommen, besonders da es sich um ein Sony Album handelt und Sony eines der führenden Mitglieder bei CD text ist. Wie ich bei meiner Suche im I-netz feststellte, sind Umlaute in CD text nicht erlaubt. Mein CD Player im Autoradio zeigt keine Title, sondern nur Spurnummern an.
Der Windows Media Player auf Win7 zeigt die korrekten Titel (mit Umlauten), RHythmbox auf Ubuntu 16.04 zeigt keine Titel (nur den Hinweis nicht in MusicBrainz gefunden). ExactAudioCopy auf Win7 findet keine Albuminformationen auf freedb.
Schlussendlich habe ich eine ander CD mit Kodi getestet und diese zeigte korrekte Titel mit Umlauten an. Ich werde wohl mit dem Problem leben müssen.

Ich würde das Thema gerne als geschlossen/gelöst markieren, finde aber den Knopf dafür nicht.
