Hi,
Decided to try the latest Leia x64 a try but playback of files in rar container results in the following error:
Windows 10 fall creators:
WARNING: XFILE::CDirectoryFactory::Create - unsupported protocol(rar) in rar://
Ubuntu 17.10: 
WARNING: Create - unsupported protocol(rar) in rar://

it works fine using kodi 17.6 on both systems.

The rar functionality has been moved to an addon in v18, go to My Addons and make sure it's enabled.

on ubuntu you have to install and enable kodi-vfs-rar or kodi-vfs-libarchive

Interesting. Am I correct in assuming (based on a quick glance of the source code) that the kodi-vfs-rar plugin is a version of the old kodi rar code separated into a VFS plugin while kodi-vfs-libarchive is a new VFS plugin based on the libarchive library? In that case, I assume the latter is expected to better support newer RAR versions as well as a number of other archive types?

EDIT: Based on the comment from the plugin maintainer here, it seems my assumption was correct.
