subtitle (idx + sub)

It seemed I never got subtitle (idx + sub) to work. I tried to use the On Screen Display (OSD), but it did not help at all.

I have a problem with sub and idx too.

Mine however finds them, but as soon as they are due to be shown XBMC crashes.

Any ideas?

The only way I got them to work was by playing another movie then enabling subs as the default for all movies. When you play the one with idx+sub it'll work.

havent tested with idx files but *.srt works for me with no problems.
i put the *.srt file in the same dir as the movie and call it the exact same as the movie file. hmmm gotta test with some idx files

hmmm, idx+sub files is hard to come by.. i only find srt files on the web. Smile
do you have any link to an idx+sub files i could download ?

I wouldn't want to post the links i have for files using idx + sub, not the most legit.

I also have no problems with .srt files.

And i have tested the same idx + sub files which crash my windows version, using the latest xbox build and these playback with no problems.

So i can only assume this is a bug relating specifically to the windows build.

I had to bring this topic up again. Considering how I'm deaf in real life, and the subtitles is the #1 priority for me.

I'm not happy with how the idx + sub is performing in the PC version. It would run for a few min then disappears forever.

BUT, somehow I found a workaround where you just mux the idx + sub into a .mkv format (with the video and audio stream) and it will work flawless... EXCEPT for its position.

The subtitles position is a little bit annoying for me. And no, there is no way I can shift the subtitles up and down, that only work for .ass, .ssa, or .srt, etc.

Now, I was wondering if anyone know why this is happening? The position issue with idx + sub? Is it the mplayer.exe? Any way to fix it?

I'm gonna add some link and show the comparison between VLC and XBMC player.

Welcome to the forums! Could you please post a debug log as well as a link to the offending sub files. I'm assuming you've tried to reposition the subtitles in Settings > Appearance > Screen > Video Calibration? Though it's strange they'd be clear up there in the first place.

Yes, I already know about subtitle reposition, they only seem to work for .srt, or any text based subtitle, but not idx + sub. They're like, an exact rip of DVD subtitles, (You probably already knew that) it only depend on how the player display them. VLC, so far, does it very well.

And the debug... I'll come back to that asap. And the link to sub? Meaning? You want the subs files?

I suspect it's because the original video has been resampled (from 720x480 to 720x400) and we're displaying the vobsub using the video's PAR, rather than it's internal PAR (it's anamorphic, or at least has non-square pixels).

Could you create a small sample from which we can reproduce this error by any chance, or let us know the procedure to generate our own?

Cheers,
Jonathan

Oh yes, you perhaps are right about that. That totally make sense. Yes, all of the videos are resampled at 720x400 from the source of 720x480. That's probably the reason why the vobsub seemed stretched out from the top toward bottom.

What sample do you need? The video with subtitles? I could make a small (short) clip, or...?

Never mind, I'll make one shortly.

Here it is. Medidafire... hope its alright with you, 30 mb in size, first 3 mins.

Thanks - have grabbed and will take a look this evening to check whether I can reproduce.
