Live TV for HD channels stutters - pauses every few seconds - since Kodi 18 Alpha
#1
I am on Kodi 18 Beta 1 with WMC Addon 2.3.3. When watching any High Definition Channel it stutters though I have a good connection.
With stuttering I mean that every few seconds a small Watch appears on the screen and counts for some seconds while the TV channel pauses.
It is completely unusable ! The problem is with all HD channels.
The problem started with Kodi 18 Alpha and its first WMC Addon.

I tried it on all my 3 windows PCs and installed the same Beta of Kodi 18 and have on all PCs the same problem.
All my PCs are on Windows 10 with latest Updates installed.
On all PCs it works with the old Kodi 17.6 !! All HD channels run smoothly without any problems !!

On my two Raspy Workstations it also runs without problems with the same backend with Kodi Version 16 !!

The Backend is always on the same Windows 10 PC (all Updates installed) with serverwmc Version 1244. I tried also the preview of 1250 but it had same problem.

Attached is the Trace where I watched a High Definition Channel for half a minute.

Many thanks for your help.

The log doesn't show any streaming problem, at least at the serverwmc side.  What happens if you record a show from this same channel and play it back in kodi, does it play okay?

Recorded TV (from HD channels) plays without any problem. Even on a PC connected via slow WLAN.

Lets try this exp then.  On the debug tab of swmc uncheck 'delete temporary files'.  Then play one of these problem channels until you see the problem a couple of times, then stop the stream.  In your recorded tv folder swmc creates a folder called Tempswmc.  In that folder, you'll see a .wtv file and a .ts file that were created when you were streaming.  Try playing the .ts file directly with Kodi and see if you see the same problem you did when you were live streaming.

Don't forget to turn back on 'delete temporary files' when you are done.

Sorry - it took a while because I did not find the Temporary Files but once I added the Temp Folder to my Videos it worked fine !!
The same Live TV that stuttered every few seconds was perfectly shown in my Video Folder !! The .ts fle without sound but the according .wtv with sound !

I tried it now even on another PC with slow WLAN connection where the Live TV is a complete mess. And again the according .ts and .wtv files stream like a charm...

With kind regards.

The wtv file doesn't matter, its the ts file that is being streamed when you do live tv.  But the ts file doesn't play with sound on any machine you tried it with?  How about playing the ts file using a player other then kodi?

On all of my machines the .ts file plays without sound in Kodi. When I open the same file with the Windows Video Player it plays with sound on all machines.

Can upload the .ts file and the .wtv file to the g-drive location below?  If the are too big, make smaller versions that show the problem.

So far I cannot find a problem.  The default language on these these videos should be German, correct?

I've seen this exact same issue with no audio, specifically when playing HD channels. The problem was not unique to the WMC client, as I also tried NextPvr and MediaPortal clients as well. You can read more here:- https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2763138

As you will see, a fix was implemented at this time, but only partially it would seem, as some users (including myself) were still getting issues afterwards. Maybe the issue still hasn't been resolved fully. I can't confirm the same behaviour still exists for me as I don't use this same tuner card currently.

Martin, how is your playback if you leave a HD channel playing for a few mins? Some of mine would stutter and without audio as you described, but would eventually sort itself out after playing for a few minutes and would then play normally. Initially, I thought the same as you, that channel was not playing audio.

Thought the feedback might assist you.....

Did you enable the whitelist modes that are present as per Kodi 18? Just wondering.
