No audio through hdmi sometimes
#1
Hey guys,

Currently I'm running Kodi 18 on ODROID C2 through LibreElec 8.90.006 connected on a Denon S930h AVR.

The problem is, sometimes no audio passes through the hdmi ouput, so I have to go to options and change the output to analog, then it works... But then it uses C2's DAC, which is much worse than the AVR's.

Do you have any idea about why this is happening? Ideally, Kodi should output digitally all the time and let the AVR do all the decoding hardwork via passthrough...And I believe this AVR is capable of decoding mostly anything.

It seems to be happening with random video and audio files.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

As an FYI, I have a windows 10 HTPC (with intel graphics) running Kodi 18 connected to my AMP via HDMI which is connected to my TV via HDMI.

Within windows 10, i have set default audio over HDMI /AMP and the number of channels are set to 7.1 while within Kodi i have audio set to WASAPI over HDMI/AMP.
And to ensure that i actually get sound from my amplifier via HDMI, i must 1st turn on the TV followed by turning on the AMP and lastly turning on the HTPC and starting KODI.

If i turn on the AMP after Kodi is up and running, i get no sound from the AMP (as windows has dropped to stereo while kodi has changed itself to directsound).
When this happens, sometimes just setting Kodi to WASAPI over HDMI/AMP is enough, sometimes i have to get out of Kodi and set windows default device to AMP/7.1 then restart KODI.

Why this happens i don't know but i'm not too fussed as i intend to get a CEC device to add to the HTPC and hopefully it will be grandma proof...

Note that i didn't have the same issue when using RPi as it turned TV and AMP on via HDMI CEC during bootup which is why i think adding CEC to the HTPC should resolve it...

Whether Odroid C2 has CEC i don't know but if it does, have you set CEC to turn on your TV and AMP as this may resolve the sound issue for you.
I'm a XBMC novice :)
