Android Kodi 18.9 -- Strange audio and video problems using Fire TV
#1
Question
I've been running Kodi 18.9 on my second generation Fire TV box pretty much since it was released (not counting brief tryouts of 19.x, which I have so far found unsatisfactory). But the very strange symptoms I see fairly often now are new for the last couple of weeks, and they don't disappear by clearing the cache or even clearing the data as well, then uninstalling and reinstalling it.

The problems I'm seeing are intermittent, but common. The two different symptoms are these: (1) I'm watching a video hosted on my local NFS server (connected via Ethernet, not wireless), and even if I don't press any button or otherwise interact with it, after a while the video will briefly stop for a second or two and then continue playing. This can happen several times in the course of an hour of video. Note that this is not caused by any network or other performance lags on the Windows 10 Pro box that I use as my NFS server because it's not doing anything else.

(2): I'm playing a video and, for whatever reason, I pause it. Most of the time I then rewind or fast-forward the video, then I hit Play again. Kodi tells me that it's "seeking", unusually for 60 seconds or more, whereupon it starts playing again, but the audio speed slows down to approximately 20% of the normal speed! If I then pause again or press stop and then press play again, the same symptoms persist for as long as I've had the patience to wait.

Usually I can "fix" this by playing some other video (for which both the video and audio play normally), then I go back and play the original video again, which now plays properly, often for the rest of the video. I haven't had any hardware acceleration enabled for a long time (when its enabled, I see terrible artifacts).

Here are what I think may be the most relevant settings...

Player - Settings - Videos...
    - Playback:
Adjust display refresh rate: On Start
        Sync playback to display: Enabled
    - Processing
        Render method: Auto detect
Enable HQ scalers for scaling above: 20%
Hardware acceleration - MediaCodec (Surface) = Disabled
Hardware acceleration - MediaCodec = Disabled
    - Stereoscopic 3D = Ignore
    - Teletext = Disabled

My add-ons (most likely to be relevant)
    - VideoPlayer InputStream
        InputStream Adaptive = Enabled

System - Settings
    Display
        Whitelist = 1920x1080p 59.94 Hz
Num buffers used by graphics driver = 3
    Audio
Audio output device = android, audiotrack
        Num of Channels = 5.1
        Output Config = Fixed
Maintain orig vol on downmix = Disabled
        Stereo upmix = Enabled
        Resample Quality = High
Threshold for pitch correction = 0
Limit sampling rate = 48.0 kHz
Keep audio device alive = 1 Minute
Send low volume noise = Disabled
Audio Passthrough: NO SETTINGS are shown!

I'm using Confluence for my skin. Note that the problem is not consistent: Just because an issue exists at one time for a particular video, it does not necessarily happen other times that I play it.

So: Any suggestions from you wise folks, please?  I really need help!

18.9 is dead, no one will care anymore for bugs in Leia.
Try Matrix (current stable) or checkout Nexus (unstable but with many fixes already).
