Hello everyone,

I have a Batman 4k UHD Bluray which I ripped using MakeMKV. Afterswards I always convert the output file with HandBrake. This time I used the codec x264 10 bit. I wanted to keep the HDR data of the movie.

The problem now is that I can't play the file in Kodi (Matrix) which is running on a RaspberryPi 4 with libreelec. The screen just says that it's loading the file but nothing happens. The debug output on the screen shows a 110 - 120% CPU usage after a couple of seconds. No matter how long I wait the playback never stards.
Also canceling the playback (key x) just freezes Kodi and I have to plug the cable for a reboot.

I thought 4k is supported on Kodi (this is my first 4k movie). Is the codec maybe not supported?

I'm not sure if this is the correct one. Please let me know if not. I searched through the file for the movie name but nothing came up.

@Hitcher sorry for the very late reply. Thank you for the information. I've read somewhere else that 4k HDR playback is better supported with HEVC so I will try this again.

4k HDR playback is just about exclusively used with the HEVC format. Some cowboys have created 4K videos in h264 here and there, but most (if not all) video cards only have hw acceleration for 4K hevc, not 4K h264.
The reddit link is a 1 year old, and RPi4 / LibreELEC development is still ongoing. it should handle 4K HDR by okay now.

In addition not many GPU's do not support 10bit H.264 as it's not something used in normal consumer formats, however any GPU that supports 4K HEVC will generally do 10bit as that is something that is used on consumer formats.
