TV Show Naming
#1
I'm looking for some guidance on TV Show naming. I have read the wiki and know I should improve my current naming scheme, want to do this right the first time!

I've omitted season folders from this example as from everything I've read, they have no bearing on naming, only organisation (and yes I use them for that reason).

Current
TV Shows/The Prisoner/The Prisoner S01E01.mkv
This mis-scraped as 'The Prisoner' series from 2009 (I know why). Was an easy fix (information > refresh > choose the right one) but looking to avoid this in future

Wiki minimum
TV Shows/The Prisoner (1967)/S01E01.mkv
Recommends the year is included at the folder level, but not required per file?

Easy fix - add year to folder only
TV Shows/The Prisoner (1967)/The Prisoner S01E01.mkv'
Why - so I only have to rename a hundred folders, not the thousands of individual episodes

Time-consuming fix - add year to everything
TV Shows/The Prisoner (1967)/The Prisoner (1967) S01E01.mkv'

I'm hoping just adding the year to the parent folder is enough. As an example, would the following two shows scrape correctly?
TV Shows/The Prisoner (1967)/The Prisoner S01E01.mkv'
TV Shows/The Prisoner (2009)/The Prisoner S01E01.mkv'

Cheers Smile

this however will not work, because it doesn't exist, unless it is missing i think you mean 1967 - https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/894-the-prisoner

"TV Shows/The Prisoner (1967)/S01E01.mkv" even works for me, using TMDb, because it is using the parent folder to identify the Show it belongs to then the Season and Episode from the episode file

Thanks - and you're right it should have been 1967 not 1978. Edited my post in case more people look at it.

Interesting to watch this series, we visited Portmeirion where they filmed this and it hasn't changed too much in 40 years!

@symean

You have everything correct in your first post.

You can also use a Parsing NFO file... https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files/Parsing

/The Prisoner (1967) S01E01.mkv'
Not needed.
As you have already discovered, the only thing Kodi is looking for is the S01E01 numbering. Nothing else.
Adding the year does not hurt, but its not needed anyway.
So you can name it
S01E01.mkv
S01E01 The Prisoner.mkv
The Prisoner S01E01.mkv

TV Shows/The Prisoner (2009)/The Prisoner S01E01.mkv'
Yes, should do.
Episodes are not scraped. Only the TV Show is scraped.
Kodi finds the TV Show, then downloads a little bundle of data that contains the episode information.
The data is extracted and locally cached, then Kodi matches the S01E01 numbering of your file with the same S01E01 numbering in the data bundle.
