I don't see the usual news on the front page. Is the downloadable beta truly Beta 1?

Yep, it's Beta 1.
We are in the process of writing the blog now. Just waiting for the list of important PR's to be finalised. Not all developers have been available the last few days to submit.

Thanks for confirming (almost instantly, too!). I wasn't in any way trying to pressure you in writing the news article. I just wanted to be sure that it was all legit before installing unsigned software.
