Eevices to play Dolby Vision with Kodi
#1
I understand Kodi can play Dolby Vision now (https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=360018)

Which Media Player is proven to work, beside Nvidia Shield ?   I see Xiaomi Tv Box S 2nd Gen is supposed to support it.

I guess not a chance on non-lincensed SBCs, like raspberry or odroid?

But what about XIAOMI?  Do we have a list of boxes that support double vision?

if it is officially licensed by dolby running android - it will work with v21 Kodi Android
if it is officially licensed by dolby running android and you install CoreELEC onto it - it will work (-K variants, see coreelec for details)

as of right now, nothing else works

i put all this information together already almost 8 months ago - https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=372462

Oh.. so it won't work with the current  non-beta Kodi 20
I guess I cannot install CoreELEC on Xiaomi
So I'm out of luck or I would have to try to start to do experiments

As an interim solution, would you know if there is any player that supports running DV over a samba share?

And would you know what to look for to know for sure a file is dolby vision?  I have some *dovi* named files, but when I play them on my TV (via USB) it doesn't detect DoVi and everything it's played green an purple (on any player)

samba, no samba, doesn't matter it's just a file transport

seems to me you should know what you purchased, assuming you legally purchased and made legal backups of your own media Huh

just in case you don't see it on your disc or case the contributors at blu-ray.com do a good job of listing the codecs used

f.e. this copy of shazam is clearly marked Dolby Vision - https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Shazam-Fu...ray/332982

if you don't know your exact copy you can usually search the barcode on the case

but if you get green/purple then your device doesn't support DV - https://avsforum.com/threads/tv-shows-an...le.3264335

mkvinfo will also show the DV profile information - https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopi...start=5775

as will ffmpeg
Code:
Side data:
DOVI configuration record: version: 1.0, profile: 7, level: 6, rpu flag: 1, el flag: 1, bl flag: 1, compatibility id: 6
