Hi All,
In the past I could add Video to my library from a network location but now the only thing I can add is "checkhost.local"
If I try to add this it asks me for the Username and Password, which I can enter, assuming it would then let me log into the server, but nope. Just keeps returning to the same enter name and password page.
Previously I could click on SMB, select the Server name, select the directory and add the movies and tv shows, but no longer.
Have I done something wrong or maybe entered a wrong setting somewhere?
TIA

Being able to view/discover devices on the network via SMB is a function of SMB1, which has been depreciated and should be removed (it has huge security holes, the "wannacry" issue for example).
The best way to do it is via the generic add network source option (I forget the exact name, but it's the bottom one on the list) and there you can put the protocol, the server name/IP address and local details like login credentials and folders etc.
Note that you can't browse for servers any more, as that functionality is not in SMB2 or SMB3, you have to enter their name or IP address. Once that is done you should be able to browse within the server though to set the local folder/share.

Ah missed that one, although from experience on my home network WS-discovery is still a bit hit and miss anyway.

Thanks for that info. I did manage to add the folders manually as you suggested. I still have SMB 1 turned on in windows and it was working fine up until I did a full New Install a couple of weeks ago.
The thing is, I can see other computers on my network fine, they show up and I can search the shared folders, just the Server not showing up, although I can access it fine by typing in the url. Perhaps something has changed on the server ? (But I don't know what?)
Cheers

First thing I'd double-check is that you actually have SMB1 still turned on.
Given it's such a security risk, MS tend to turn it off again if it's enabled whenever an update or suchlike is done on Windows.
There have been a few cases where this has caused things to randomly stop working, when MS decide to make your decisions for you...
That said there is some strong justification to push people towards the much more secure SMB2 or SMB3 (and I think SMB4 is around too, although doesn't get much attention).
You can also sometimes have "fighting" on your network as the whole set-up can need a WINS server if I remember well.
This should automatically be decided within your network set-up by poll, but if something has gone wrong there then again things can stop working.

Thanks DarrenHill, Yep, SMB1 is on. I have my main computer running 24/7 and on the network it is HALSVR , then there is many others, HALBDR, HALLNG, HALGRG, HALCBY, Bedroom, Loungeroom etc etc.
When I add movies or TV The path is always to HALSVR, If I go to browse and the other machines are on, currently I get,
checkhost.local
HALBDR
HALGRG
HALLNG
Its just the server being weird. As you said, as it is always on, Microshaft has probably thrown some stupid update in there and turned something on or off. Im guessing it has something to do with security as If I click on the others, I can straight browse the shared folders, But clicking on checkhost.local bring up another little box asking for name and password of the SVR however, typing in the name and password, does nada. I can still add them directly however so its all good. Im just being lazy, liking the browse thing. I just like things to work is all.
Cheers
