Bug? Timeshift not possible for radio
#1
Hi,

I already posted in LibreELEC (https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/27773-...for-radio/) and Tvheadend (https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/43179?r=51063) forums, and the opinion is, I should ask here:

Hi, although I am using LibreELEC and TVHeadend since years, I just stumbled upon one thing: timeshift is only supported when watching TV, not when listening to some radio channel. Is this really not supported, or is it an issue on my side?

As I wrote in the thread over at tvheadend.org, the web player of TVHeadend seems to allow to pause the stream and start again at the exact position, where I paused. Whereas in KODI, when I pause for a couple of minutes, the stream starts again at the real position, so nothing is cached. As I cannot test any other tvheadend client (TVHClient on Android doesn't support timeshift at all), I am not fully sure but, I would think that pvr.hts seems to handle TV and Radio differently regarding timeshifting.

Device: RPi 5, LibreELEC 12 nightly, fully updated

Thanks and best

Timeshift with radio works, but with limitations.
With radio timeshift you only have pause and play available.
No forwards or backwards and no buffer display.

Doesn’t look like it will be fixed anytime soon reading that response. Might be worth reporting it as an issue on the GitHub to see if you can generate further feedback https://github.com/kodi-pvr/pvr.hts/issues

No need to do that. This is something that needs to be fixed in tvheadend, not pvr.hts

There is no special handling for radio timeshift in the addon. It acts purely on what data it gets from tvheadend. Tvheadend does not send any timeshift buffer information for radio channels via htsp. Nothing the addon can do to fix this.

Thanks for the clarification, @ksooo. I opened an issue on the bug tracker of TVHeadend. Let's see, what they think about it and what further info they may need.

What happens if you use a radio station that provides EPG data, e.g. NDR 2 ?

It is also not timeshifting with NDR 2, so no Rewind or FF possible. So far, I have not found one radio channel, where this works.
