Solved Brand new Linux Mint install - Could not connect to Kodi add-on repository
#1
I installed the latest version of Kodi (build 20.5.0 - from Flatpack, not PPA) on the latest stable version of Mint (21.3 Virginia) without any other additions or modifications and immediately received an error while trying to install the Kodi Add-On repository : Could not connect to repository. I've tried to install three other stable repositories with no luck either - the "the following additional add-ons will be installed" page" all showed multiple necessary plugins and scripts were "not available" and the expected thumbnail images beside their names were all empty.

I couldn't possibly have installed Kodi on a cleaner system and I've never had this problem before.

Is the Kodi Add-On repository down?

Any ideas?

I had the same issue on a fresh Debian install. While on a previous fresh install, two days ago, it still worked!

I think I figured out the cause now though! And have a fix!

In the logs (found at `~/.kodi/temp/kodi.log`) I saw this happen when the repo failed to open:
https://paste.kodi.tv/yakoqukefo

This error led me to these posts with similar issues:
https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/could-not-co...ory/88635/
https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/24829

With this extra info I tried to fix it by making changes to the file: `/usr/share/kodi/addons/repository.xbmc.org/addon.xml`

It was solved after I changed all four of the mirrors links to httpS in that file.

I hope that helps!

This should probably be permanently fixed in the code, but I'm far from sure what the actual issue is here, so I'm afraid I'll leave it at this for today...

Thanks for your reply.

Get this: I don't have the file you suggested I modify. I DO have the following though:

'app/tv.kodi.Kodi/data/addons/repository.dobbelina'   and   'app/tv.kodi.Kodi/data/addons/repository.resolveurl'

I've modified both as you've suggested, but there's been no change; I'm still locked out.

What a complete farce.

We need a Debug Log to diagnose the problem.

The more logs from different users, the better so we can track down where the problem is.

i have the exact same problem on a fresh install using the alpine kodi package.

Get this: Since I'd installed Kodi on a perfectly new installation of Mint and had minimal time invested, I did another clean-sheet reinstall of Mint, installed Kodi yet again and now everything works as normal.

As far as I can see, I changed absolutely nothing from one install to the next, and now it magically works?

I think we have a 'ghost in the machine' here...

No, there was an issue found which was resolved this morning (there are several threads in the Windows and Android sections about it).

So no ghosts, just bugs as usual... Wink

Thanks for your response and quick work on fixing the issue.

I'm trying to mark this thread as solved, but for the life of me I can't find a way to do so. Is there a button I'm missing?

Thanks
