Dune HD Pro Vision 4K Kodi capabilities under Kodi
#1
Received the newest media player today from Dune HD, the "Dune HD Pro Vision 4K".  It uses the Amlogic S905X4 SoC and running the Dune HD Linux modified OS.  It does not play the Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL under Kodi version 21.0.1 without enabling the "Dolby Vision compatibility mode".  It gives a green/red screen and no video.

It does have a microSD card slot, so it may be possible to run CoreELEC.

Thanks for your review. Dune needs to stop claiming "P7 MEL and FEL" under Dune OS/Android TV, where it can only do MEL. I assume it should be able to do FEL under CE like Homatics Box R Plus & Dune HD R Plus? Have you tried?

No, have not tried CE yet.

Per your suggestion I ran CoreELEC on this device and the lady showed up using your "DV FEL All Layers Test (Woman at 80s).mkv".
I used the pen drive from my Dune Homatics box that already had CoreELEC on it.  However, I had to replace the device tree with this one >> sc2_s905x4_4g_1gbit.dtb <<.

Since I was not sure where the "reset button" was located, I used this app "Reboot_to_CoreELEC_3.0.apk" and it worked like a charm.

Since this pen drive was used on my Dune Homatics, it already had the IR remote working, so I had to use that remote, and it worked well.

Tomorrow, I will install CoreELEC onto a microSD card and use that.  Not sure there is a remote.config for the Dune remote.

Nice! Thanks for taking the leap and testing everything for us!

Thanks for testing. It should be able to do full 3D as well. Will add to recommended Kodi players thread.

Would this be considered the holy grail?

No. Ugoos AM6B+ will still perform better for local media playback, and Homatics/Dune Homatics/etc. will still be able to do it all (CE w/full FEL DV & official Android TV w/premium apps streaming at 4K HDR/DV).

It would be great if Dune would implement FEL function in the Dune environment so switching to coreelec wouldnt be needed

Personally, I really can't tell the difference between playing a video withe FEL using the Dune app or playing the same video under CoreELEC.

Have you tried comparing Saving Private Ryan on Dune and then Coreelec? You should see a difference at the beginning of the movie, while he visits the cemetery.

Not enough to lose sleep over.... Smile  I really can't see the issue with the clouds. It could be my TV or my eyes.

Sorry for the stupid question.
With CoreELEC can I install mod skins like Aeon MQ 9 Multi Mod?
Thanks

yes
since corelec only refers to the underlying os and what runs on top is still kodi then everything kodi supports works
the limitations are only in the hardware you're running on and the version of kodi the skin supports

Thank you for the confirmation.
As soon as I get the box I would be curious to see the differences between the Kodi player with CoreELEc and the Dune player with the Kodi app.
