How do i make it so i don't have to view the 'root selection'?

What do you exactly mean when you say "root" here? Huh

There is a setting for it. I think it's called "hide parent folder items". Appearance/view options.

FYI; "root" means many things in the world of computing:

So your question is very confusing considering that XBMC also runs on Linux and you did not mention your platform.
