MythSExx support thread

In order to ensure that MythSExx provides the very best SxxExx show name translations available, I have started this thread to address any technical support issues.

This is what is required for assistance

• A description of the problem
  
• A single debug log from the file /mythtv/MythSExx/output.log

Do not post the entire output.log file

• A debug log begins with: @@@@@@@@@@NEW SEARCH INITIATED AT
  
• Wrap debug logs in [ code] [/code] tags so they are readable.

A Debug log is only generated when the Debug Log=ENABLED in the program. A debug log will have the words DEBUG MODE ENABLED within it.

hi -
a couple of more issues... one is possibly completely unrelated to MythSExx. Take a look at the thread i started here:

net of this is that when i play the moved recording via library mode, no edl information is found. If i select the same recording via file mode from the myth:// source, edl info is found. Any ideas?

I thought as a workaround to above, that i'd try LINK mode instead of MOVE mode. MythSExx seemed to function fine but i've attached the log anyway for you to look at. However, the video will not play when i select it from Library mode. It plays fine in file mode...

Well, I don't know much about mac. I do know that symbolic links are a function of the file system. It may be that the networked shares are referenced differently then the local file system shares, in which case the link is pointing to a file which does not exist on the network. It could also be that mac cannot handle ubuntu symbolic links. I really don't know. The intent for LINK mode was so that a person who uses myth tv on their computer can create links for xbmc on their computer. Move mode would be the choice for you.

I'm not really familiar with edl. MythTV keeps a MySQL database, one for program guide, one for recorded and so on and so fourth. When MythTV serves a file over it's server, it controls the data associated with the file. When you pull a file off a shared folder, XBMC controls the data associated with the file. Personally, I'd rather have XBMC in charge of my media rather then Myth because it is a much nicer platform and has more features. This is the intent of MythSExx. MythSExx obtains information from the internet about the episode and tags the file so it is readable by XBMC, while allowing MythTV to generate new content and remove old.

MythSExx is working fine, so i think i have to figure out some more details around XBMC's library mode to determine how to best work in commercial skipping.

i agree - something is not quite right with LINK mode between the mac and ubuntu... although symlinks do seem to work fine with MOVE mode, so that seems kind of odd...

In MOVE mode, Myth manages the file itself using the symlink, and the file itself is available for everyone to use in it's new easily identifiable form.

In LINK mode, Myth still manages the file, however the symlink, instead of the file, is displayed to others. If a computer does not know what to look for, or, the computer does not have privlidges to view that file, then it cannot use it.

There is something which you might try. look at the file MythSExx.sh and find this section.

Where it says ln -s "$3" "$MoveDir/$ShowFileName.$originalext", remove the "-s". that will create hard links. It may be that a hard link would be better then a symbolic link in your case. If you would like to try it, let me know how it works on your cross-platform network share, if it works, I'll add it as a option in the next release.

Keep in mind that LINK mode requires you to clean up the links created if the original file is deleted where in MOVE mode, MythTV will clean up the link and the original file.

Thanks for that - i didn't try it because i also have a windows machine and XBMC on windows could actually play the recording when i used LINK mode. Nevertheless, that didn't solve the commercial skipping problem.. so i lost my motivation to use LINK mode.

Most likely, this is because, as you pointed out, the video isn't served from Myth when sourced from a shared folder.

I think i simply may need to run comskip outside of Myth to achieve what i wanted (library mode + commercial skipping).

Love the script! It took a while, but I finally got the logistics worked out and tweaked a couple of line to fit my setup. One question though, I noticed a couple of episodes of South Park had no episode names in the description, and this caused the job to fail. Here's my log.

The log seems a bit sparse, so I'm not sure if it's a bug or I'm just missing something.

mythicalLibrarian is still a work in progress and the logging is not what it should be just yet. %s mean failure, @mean sucess

Your logs are correct. The channel which south park was recorded from did not supply guide data to your program guide supplier.

This failure is only given when too little information about the show is available.

Basically, that Generic guide data came up as a failure message after a library check. Whenever mythicalLibrarian is supplied a showID that starts with SH, it is catagorized correctly as a show without episode data. There is no way to identify it from the program guide. There are 3 identifiers, MV for movies, EP for episodes with information and SH for generic shows. The guide supplier gave generic recording information.

was from a previous recording. I was debugging the method of tracking all comskip files generated by mythicalLibrarian. It's fixed now and mythicalLibrarian now keeps track of every comskip file it creates, then deletes it if the recording is removed. This way it can keep the library tidy. I will update the wiki when I am done typing this.

The built in soloution for unrenamed shows is to go into doover.sh, add the proper title information. doover.sh will then call mythicalLibrarian to run every job that has been reported to doover.sh one at a time.

The recommended way of running doover.sh would be to first set Database=Disabled, edit doover to give the proper information, then run the following lines

Works for me. I just mainly wanted to make sure this was expected behavior, and that I hadn't dorked something up installing it. I'm just happy to have MythTV integrated into the library now, and not have to jump through hoops to view recorded programs!

Hi...

recorded desperate housewives 1/3/10 (still using MythSExx circa 12/16 or so). Wondering if certain regex characters ("..." in this case) in the episode name will throw off mythicalLibrarian's results. The episode title was "If..." and it matched a season 4 episode "If there's anything I can't stand" instead of the season 6 episode info for todays airing.

It sure did. mythicalLibrarian addressed this issue with an additional database, one for fuzzy logic matching and one for show renaming. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=MythicalLibrarian

I will try to come back and upgrade MythSExx as it has it's streamlined advantage over mythicalLibrarian. mythicalLibrarian has less fuzzy logic toleration, but it makes up for this by adding support for lookup by original airdate.

That is an extremely undesired action though. I will upgrade MythSExx within the week.

that didn't seem to work though - it found the title, but for some reason couldn't identify the episode and season.. (but it's in tvdb). [i've been waiting to submit this reply, but i think the problem might be that tvdb hasn't been responding for me for the last hour... so the log below may help...]

TheTvDb has been down for a while now. I started troubleshooting on your example when I got home from work 3.5 hours ago and I tried to rerun your search, but the DB was down. You can see the line up top...
