Need tool and help automating my TV Shows downloading and naming...

Ok ive got all my movies under control with Ember Media Manager, and have decided ill be updating the movie folder manually. For my tv shows i want to take a different approach, i want it to be as automatic as possible.

Ive tried tvrename but cannot understand how it works, ive read the user guide like 4 times but its a bit confusing as the layout has changed.

Can you guys share different set ups you use to automate tv show downloading. Im also not sure how to deal with odler cartoon series which are double episodes (such as rugrats and courage the cowardly dog) would like to get everything automated, have been reading the forums and find that tvrename can be automated but i cannot find out how, as it seems changes need user input. I would like to know how you guys get tvrename to automate or if theres a program that does this. thank you! xbmc is awesome

It's only alpha but feel free to give it a shot. Once poster/fanart support is done it should be all you need for XBMC tv automation.

Thanks ill give it a shot, but was intimidated by the "this release is not for noobs" label.Big Grin

Ill give it a shot, when do you think the posters and fanart feature will be done?

Open to other suggestions also but im gonna try sickbeard and see how it works.

What are you currently using to download your TV shows?

If you're using Usenet then I'd say adding the extra functionality of Sickbeard is easy - hopefully you're also using SABnzbd+?

I'm now using SABnzbd+, Sickbeard, Growl and Prowl which is very slick. Now automatically downloads my shows, renames them, moves to correct folder and creates the nfo and thumbnails. Then sends off an update to my iPhone telling me it's done!

Give sickbeard a go!

Unfortunately im not using usenet yet, havent delved into it yet but am interested. Know of any "usenet beginners guide" Wink

Right now im using utorrent to download everything and problably going to use TED for looking up tv shows since its family friendly, but i have no clue on how to set up automation. Looked at sickbeard and it looks like its more for the usenet people. Will give it another look tomorrow, but am open to any other ways of automating.

tbh the days of usenet being complicated or needing a user guide are pretty much over. If you think of an .nzb file being the same as .torrent file then what happens in the background doesn't really matter.

I use sites like nzbs dot org to fine the .nzb files. Click, download and set SABnzb to open them (or set it to monitor a folder where you download them to) and it can do the rest. This includes downloading, checking and joining the parts together leaving you with your finished download.

It'll max out your download speed too. Only downside is you likely need to pay for usenet access, which is normally around £12-£20 a month for unlimited access. You can get SSL encryption making it a lot more secure than torrents, and with server retention now up to 1yr plus on most providers there's a whole load of content out there.

@Op

This is what I use personally.

http://www.therenamer.com/

I use the command line feature, meaning I do all my downloading and at 12am aka midnight I have it run it in command line, which opens the app and then runs it against a pre determined folder and then moves/renames all of my shows. Creates a TV folder, Season and of course renames the episode with optional episode title in the file name into its folder.
http://www.therenamer.com/forum/viewtopi...69747f24b4

Example.

Human.Target.01x01.avi would become.

Human Target
Season 1
Human Target - S01E01 - Pilot.avi

If you have two or three episodes of the same season or Name it would only create on folder and put them where they belong. It will also look for episodes in sub folders so you can dump all of your downloads into a folder and it will dig down looking for them all.

I really like it and I've been using it for heck I don't know just shy of a year.

What do you guys use for fanart and poster art? Do you just make sure the names are correct and leave it up to xbmc. is this the best choice? Wouldnt it take a bit longer or does xbmc cache the images and stuff?

I use TED to find the episodes and it auto starts the downloads in a downlaod folder using utorrent. They are downloaded into a generic "active downloads" folder. Once the download is complete utorretn moves them to "unsorted media." Ghostevent sees the new files show up in unsorted media and opens TheRenamer which then renames the episode as Show S01E01 Episode Title and moves it to the proper folder in my TV Show library. I use the XBMC scraper on start-up.

This setup is pretty much automatic although I do have a problem with my library sometimes getting populated with season folders. I don't use season folders and don't like them. This is made worse by the fact that when these season fodlers show up, they are typically wrong. Can't figure that part out yet but really like my set up.
