How to connect to the internet / Automatic and Static don't work
#1
Sad
Today, I bought a Xbox with XBMC. The seller showed me all the features and I loved it.

I can't get the network nor the internet to work. (Tried to ftp://, but that failed aswell)

This is what my settings look like:

I can't get the top 'IP' to change from 0.0.0.0 to 'something else' DHCP doesnt work?
(Btw: I read http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Network_Settings)

I can't get my Xbox to connect to the internet or the network.

When I go to system management > system settings
It says:

Type
IP 0.0.0.0 < can't get this to change
Setup network
Use static IP no

IP 192.168.1.67 (set it myself)
Subnet 225.225.225.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 0.0.0.0
DNS 0.0.0.0

When I want to connect to my router, I just type in the browser 192.168.1.1
(Also: there is this shared computer on my network with movies I would love to stream with ip 192.168.1.13)
My primary DNS server is 62.**.**.5 and my secundary is 62.**.**.6

In XBMC I've got my network set to Automatic (DHCP) with no input in DNS Suffic

But when I try to connect my Vista PC to my Xbox using ftp://192.168.1.67
It doesnt respond Sad

This is my setup:
Vista Pc ----- Router1 (192.168.1.7)
Xbox ---------Router1
XP Pc --------Router1 (computer used as server 192.168.1.13)

My goal is to be able to stream network movies and watch YouTube.
How can I connect to the internet/network?

Every different program you run on the console will end up using it's own networking settings.

If you check XBMC's network settings screen (where you set it to DHCP), you should see an IP address displayed (even if it'll be greyed out). Try FTPing to that, see what happens.
XBMC Manual - BlackBolt - SVN Guide - Skin SVN - Wide Icon SVN - ROM Shortcut Generator
You're just jealous 'cause the voices only talk to me :P

Thanks for the respons!

When I go to network settings in XBMC, there is no IP address
When I change to it static, 192.168.1.67 show up, but I'm still unable to connect using my pc (ftp://192.168.1.67 right?)

DHCP doesn't work.

Btw: I'm using normal ethernet cables, also used with my other computers (so no cross-cables)

Why doesnt DHCP work?

Do you have a router on your network?

Open a command "DOS" prompt on your PC and type "ipconfig" - what do you get back?

Are you sure the cable is good?
If you leave the DNS entries blank you will not be able to get on the internet but you will still be able to ftp in and the like.
Can you ping the xbox? "ping 192.168.1.67" from your pc's command prompt

IPv4 192.168.1.7 (voorkeur < dutch for preference
Subnetmasker 225.225.225.0
Standaardgateway 192.168.1.1
DHCP server 192.168.1.1
DNS-servers 192.168.1.1

When I ping the Xbox as rosstheboss suggested, no packages get back.

I installed the router to assign DHCP IP's ranging from 100 to 254.

The cable works (I also tried using another)

Back to basics... are the link lights on? ie a green light on the switch port of the router lights up when you turn the xbox on and the link light on the xbox comes on too?

Green light on router and xbox, correct.

(One of my starter posts shows my settings screen, next to line status it says: 100/Full Duplex, so the cable is good)
(On my router, I can't edit DHCP with Mac addresses, I can only adjust the range.)

Is it possible to go online using a static IP? What should I insert in all the fields (watch my uploaded pictures for more info about the router)

The IP address you have locally makes no odds to getting online... its a NAT'd address.... ie your PC/Xbox are hiding behind a real internet address provided by your ISP.

What sort of router is it? - personally I would default the router... allow the full subnet... dont make any alterations to the DHCP scope and try again.... it should do that from default.

Does your PC get an IP address and can access the internet?

I plugged the cable into another port on the router, edited the settings of DNS (to 192.168.1.1) and it worked! (I also changed my IP to 192.168.0.67, but somehow I CAN connect to the netwerk and the internet!)

Thanks for all the answers/suggestions!

Does anybody know a good South Park plugin (worldwide, in case there is some restriction on southparkstudios.com)?
