I know this is probably way off topic for this forum but ...

A lot of the content I play on my xbmc starts are recordings on my vista media center. I remove commercials using videoredo plus and then convert to x264 using ripbot264. But, while these steps are relatively painless if not entirely streamlined the big time consuming problem I have is first figuring out what I've recorded and getting my file names updated.

So, what I'm looking for is a utility that will read the metadata from my dvr-ms files, check thetvdb, and rename the files in a "the.series.name.sxxexx - name of episode.dvr-ms" format.

Has anyone seen anything to do that?

To make you feel good I do the same thing regarding recording from WMC. To burst your bubble I haven't found an app like that. That is the reason why I only record shows that I do not want to catalog or keep under TV library.

not sure if it will work for you, but give it a shot also look into SickBeard I can download a season then have sickbeard move, rename, get tbn, and nfo files.

Wow, way to read the question.

The link you referenced is to a program that sorts BASED ON FILE NAMES. I need to have something that will correctly give me the file name.

Second, Sickbeard is useful if you're downloading episodes. I'm working with legally obtained OTA recordings.

Again, I appreciate the help but I feel like I need to defend my prior effort to search before putting up a question because I know the rules & I know how much people around here hate to see the same question multiple times.

It's a bit quirky but I think I have it working.

MCEZ SORT works great if you just want a utility to rename and optionally sort those files based upon season and episode. Google it and try it out. I have been using it for a little while. I tried using MCE Buddy to compress those files but the encoder sucks. It injects stutters and audio delays.
